Making Food From The Sims: Chef’s Salad

Hey, everyone!

Today I thought we’d do something totally different. I had this idea.

What if… I would try to recreate recipes from The Sims games?

If you don’t know what The Sims is – it’s a series of life simulation video games where you create your people (aka sims) and manage their hunger, energy, career and overall life. The first game was released on February 4, 2000 – so it’s been around for a while! The current series is The Sims 4. Personally, I have played these games since the very beginning, overall about 20 years now (yup, I’m old). Even though nowadays mostly The Sims 4 gets my attention, I do occasionally open up the older ones – I still have them installed! – and enjoy the wave of nostalgia.

So, as you might have already guessed – I love The Sims games. I also love food. Amongst other things, different recipes and foods have been featured in the Sims games and so I thought it would be fun to take a closer look and try to recreate them in real life. Also, creating recipes and testing food like this literally allows me to play The Sims for research. What more could I even want?

Making the Chef’s Salad

Meet Madeleine Cookie, a chef from Pleasantview. Today she is going to teach us how to make the famous Chef’s Salad from The Sims 2.

Let’s check out the video! Yes, it’s silent – I’m too shy to be seen or to be talking in the videos, please forgive me!

Now, to create the recipe ourselves, we must take a close look at the ingredients she is using, because I want to include the same ones. On the tray, we can see cabbage, boiled eggs, cheese and ham. Additionally, there is a bottle of some kind of salad dressing. Since we don’t know what the dressing exactly consists of, we have some room for interpretation, which is great!

(We can also see her fiercely cutting her fingers, but let’s try to ignore that and leave finger food for some other time…)

To get a clearer picture, this is what our end goal kind of looks like. Obviously, the picture of food from the Sims, especially The Sims 2 is, uhm, not with the best quality and no amount of editing will make it look Pinterest-pretty or larger without pixels. Sorry about that!

How to make it yourself?

Let’s begin, shall we? When you start with the salad, make the dressing first, so it can sit in the fridge while you make the rest of it. This allows for more flavours to develop.

Making the dressing itself is simple. Take some dish or, even better, a jar with a lid. Add all the ingredients in the jar and then shake, shake, shake it off, shake it off… Put it in the fridge for now.

Next, if you didn’t do it beforehand, boil the eggs. You want to boil them for about 11-12 minutes – they should be hard from the inside. While the eggs are boiling, cut up the cabbage, cut the ham into cubes, and the cheese into thin small slices. Throw it all in the bowl. Then, peel the boiled eggs, cut them into sectors and add to the salad mix.

Finally, add the previously made sauce, mix it all together, and voilà! Here’s the end product:

Salad with eggs, ham and cheese.

Super easy, isn’t it? Also, for a dish from The Sims – it’s pretty tasty!

If you want me to try making any other food from The Sims or even from some other games – let me know! Oh, and let me know how you liked this one as well, if you tried it!

P.S. I also have an “Around the World Cooking Challenge” going on, so if you like challenges, go and check that one out as well!
